Woodworking

I came to woodwork almost by accident a few years ago when I came across an advert for a weekend furniture-making class at Camborne College. Having completed this taster course, I went on to the formal study of hand tool furniture making – a City and Guilds course. I have now incorporated woodworking into my artistic practice to bring you self-designed shelving units, boxes, trunks, and novelty items made from a variety of woods.

I’m a hand tool guy. I’m not here to make machined pieces, but take each piece of wood – often reclaimed wood, and create something fully human-made. I also respect the material, and the key to this is to use all of it. To this end, I make one-off bespoke pieces, then taking the offcuts, make small items – fish tea light holders and novelty gifts – for example, the Penryn peace Pilchard – which mixes my sense of humour and love of cartooning with making something truly unique. I take the remaining scraps of wood and make yet smaller things – like hand-carved fish key rings. It’s a perfect fit – I live and work in Cornwall, and I carve fish which I use to make people smile and feel better.

Here is a selection of my work, which is for sale on my ‘shop’ page. If you don’t see what you want here, why not drop me a line and see if I can make something just for you?
